These Are a Few of My Favorite Things
For my birthday month, each week I am sharing a few of my favorite things! But this isn’t just some narcissistic spree I’m on – I’m sharing because I think some of them will become your favorite things too! Think of it as my gift to you – a mystery box to open up each week. These are all things that save money, simplify things, or just make life a little sweeter. They are also things that have stood the test of time, and been my favorites for years. They are quite random, and will cover a variety of categories.
This will amount to a lot of free advertising for some products. I am receiving exactly $0 from any of these companies. These are simply things that I love and want to share!
Enjoy!
Navy Blue
I’m just going to go ahead and say it: I liked navy blue before it was cool. Years before everybody was painting their kitchen cabinets in this classic shade, I had decided to make it the cornerstone of decor in my home. I love it so much I even made my logo navy blue!
Navy blue functions as both a neutral and a color. It is on trend, and yet forever classic. It is clean and crisp, while making a bold statement. What more could you ask for in a color?
Better Homes and Gardens New Decorating Book
How did I come to this conclusion about navy blue?
I do not have a natural eye for style. Just ask my mom. I once painted my room in two shades of red, with silver swirls on the ceiling. And accents of purple. Yup.
Then came the Better Homes and Gardens New Decorating Book to the rescue! It breaks down the basic principles of design, and helps you learn how to apply them to your specific style and home. Plus it’s just fun to read, with tons of pictures to get your creative juices flowing!
With the help of this book (as well as some roommates with an eye for style, and hours perusing Pinterest), I like to think I’ve come a long way in the decorating game.
Gold Spray Paint
My roommates once teased me that I was going to spray paint everything in the house gold. They weren’t too far off. When you’re decorating (and gift giving!) on a budget, a can of gold spray paint goes a long way.
I’ve painted all kinds of glassware, pinecones, branches, mason jar lids, you name it. No regrets.
It’s also a great way to dress up Dollar Tree goods!
When in doubt? Spray paint it gold. Everything looks classier coated in gold paint. Trust me.
Stay tuned next week for more of my favorite things!
Yes! Spray paint! Gold is alway a good idea!
